About Sara Wood

Having originally trained as a dancer and dance teacher, Sara Wood discovered Pilates to be complimentary to her rigorous training. It allowed her to remain injury free and gain strength, as well as assist her performance.

Through her experience, she has realised how effective Pilates can be for people from all walks of life.


"I get a really good feeling, when a client tells me how they feel great the next day after a class, and they can actually bend down and pick something up without feeling as stiff as they used to. Or as one of my clients explained, they feel their posture has improved and abdominal strength increased which helps them when they are training and running a marathon.

People come to my classes from many different backgrounds; some are athletes, some are over 60, some have never done a day of exercise in their lives! The greatest thing is that they can all enjoy and benefit from a Pilates class for different reasons.

Due to our sedentary lifestyles, and the advancement of technology, people are moving less, so their bodies are getting stiffer and people are finding themselves less mobile, and prone to injury. Pilates is such a fantastic form of exercise for anyone, because it is gentle and it does not put the body under any strain, but simply works it in a controlled fashion, in order to train the muscles to perform efficiently.

Alongside her dance teaching, Sara has been teaching Pilates since 2001 in various countries; Scotland, England, Germany and the USA.

In 2008, in Edinburgh, she qualified to teach to Pilates Institute Matwork level 1, and more recently level 3 NOS and CYQ certificate in Mat Pilates, allowing her to teach up to Advanced level Pilates Mat based classes, and one-to-one private training.

In the future, Sara hopes to train to level 4 Pilates, allowing her to instruct people on a remedial basis.
